Search & Filter Constituents

Overview​

Learn how to quickly find specific Constituents or groups using powerful search tools, filters, and sorting options. Whether you're looking for one person or a targeted list for outreach.

Quick Start​

  1. Open the AI Assistant panel by pressing Ctrl + K or clicking the Assistant icon
  2. Ask for what you need in natural language:
    • "Show me all volunteers"
    • "Find Sarah Johnson"
    • "Show Constituents tagged as major donors, sorted by last name"
  3. The Assistant applies filters and searches automatically
  4. Refine your results with follow-up requests like "Now sort by last name"
  5. Keep the Assistant panel open to quickly adjust filters or try new searches

Method 2: Manual Navigation​

  1. Navigate to People in your main menu
  2. Use the search bar to find specific Constituents by name or email
  3. Click filter options to narrow results by tags
  4. Click column headers to sort results

🤖 AI Assistant Tip: Instead of clicking through multiple filter dropdowns, just tell the Assistant exactly what you're looking for. It understands context and can combine multiple criteria in one request!

Search Methods​

Basic Text Search​

What it searches:

  • First and Last Names
  • Email addresses
  • Phone numbers
  • Address fields

Search tips:

  • Partial matches work: "John" finds "John Smith" and "Johnson"
  • Email domains: "@gmail.com" finds all Gmail users
  • Case insensitive: "SARAH" and "sarah" return same results

Tag-Based Filtering​

Single tags:

  • Filter by any tag applied to Constituents

AI Assistant Examples​

Simple Search Requests​

  • "Find John Smith"
  • "Show me all volunteers"
  • "Search for @gmail.com"

Sorting & Organization​

  • "Sort by last name A to Z"
  • "Show newest Constituents first"

  • Start broad, then narrow: Begin with general search, add filters to refine
  • Combine search types: Use text search + tags + filters together

  • Searching for exact phrases when partial matches work better

Troubleshooting​

"No Results Found"​

Check these common issues:

  • Spelling: Try partial names or alternate spellings
  • Filters active: Look for filter badges, click "Show All" to reset
  • Case sensitivity: Search should be case-insensitive, but double-check

AI Assistant help:

  • "Why aren't there any results for 'John Smith'?"
  • "Show me what filters are currently active"
  • "Search more broadly for John"

"Too Many Results"​

Narrow your search:

  • Add location filters
  • Include specific tags
  • Use more specific search terms

AI Assistant refinement:

  • "That's too many results, filter for just volunteers"
  • "Narrow this to Constituents in Oregon"
